Ryan was born and raised in North Central Utah. He grew up hunting upland game,waterfowl and big game with his father, grandfather and friends from the time he was old enough to keep up with them in the 1980’s.

Ryan has 27 years of guiding experience working full time for Flaming Gorge Lodge, part time for Spring Creek Outfitters and mentor guiding both of his now adult children who are guides. Ryan currently serves as a full-time Army Civilian employee and a part-time hunting and fishing guide.

Ryan and his remarkable wife of 26 years Addy, founded Covey Rise Kennels in the late 1990’s and they are still the owner/operators. Covey Rise Kennels is a German Shorthair Pointer breeding/training and hunting kennel. They have tuned their line of GSPs over the past 30 years to be on the smaller end of the size scale with high energy and focus, working all species of covey birds extremely well.

Ryan and Addy have raised two amazingly successful children who both work as full-time hunting and fishing guides. His son Gunnar spends his winters in Southern Arizona guiding quail hunts for Double Aero Guides and his summers in Montana guiding trout fishing trips for Stonefly Outfitters. His Daughter Dalee lives in Montana and guides trout fishing trips for Gallatin River Guides.

Ryan loves nothing more than following his line of GSPs through the deserts, hills and prairies of the mountain west and southwest in pursuit of most any species of upland game. Among his favorites are chukars, huns, sharptail and all the species of quail.

When he’s not hunting or working dogs, Ryan can usually be found somewhere with his wife behind the oars of a drift boat, fishing or behind the fly-tying vise. Preparing for another adventure!
